March Budget

I was doing so good with my budget, and then ..... chateau parka. Damn you, J Crew, and your beautifully tailored classic pieces.  Ugh.  I'm bummed I went over budget, but know that, next winter, having an extra coat that looks a little bit nicer will be a blessing, and getting a wool coat for 125 bucks is pretty great....

Old Navy peplum top, old navy tee, old navy split hem tank, j crew gingham vest, j crew excursion vest, j crew chateau parka, j crew parka, chateau parka, j crew coat, budget, ootd

Old Navy Peplum Top // $14 (on sale for less now!)
Old Navy Tee // $7
Old Navy Tank // $15
J Crew Vest // $25 (sold out, similar linked)
J Crew Coat // $125

March Total // $186
Quarterly Total // $500 - $156 - $212 - $186 = $54 over budget (*crying eyes emoji*)

I do feel slightly better about all of it because I did get about $15 back with ebates

Fit notes // I bought the ON peplum top in a tall, which was the right call, as someone with a bigger chest. The extra length meant the peplum hits at my actual waist, which I love.  It does run a tiny bit big - I have a a couple of inches of extra fabric up top, despite the aforementioned bigger chest. The tee and tank both fit TTS, and the tee is actually opaque and with real short sleeves, a total bonus.  Despite most reviews saying the chateau parka runs large, I actually ordered a size up, to accommodate the now thrice mentioned boobs.

Coming up in the next quarter, I'm on the hunt for white jeans, a denim jacket and am considering pulling the trigger on a Brass dress for my brother's graduation in May.  I just ordered these pants and these wedges, we'll see if either work.

Linking up with Fran!

  1. 2 things: that coat is totally worth going over budget. and SUCH a good idea to get peplum tops in a Tall! I'm always disappointed when the peplum part hits me at the wrong spot, so that would definitely help!

    1. Thank you!! I'm pretty sure I ordered tall by accident, but it's been working out great. I feel like this top is one of those ON hidden gems. I'm obsessed!

  2. I never would have considered ordering a top in a longer length to account for bust size. I might have to consider trying that in the future. It's too bad you went over budget, but if that coat is as warm as it looks, it was $125 well spent.

  3. Scoring such a beautiful coat in the off-season is always a smart buy! You're going to wear -- and love it -- the moment it starts to get chilly again! I purchased the J.Crew cocoon coat during a summer Net-a-Porter sale. I felt ridiculous buying wool in July, but it made me so happy when December finally rolled around!

  4. I like that parka in the grey flannel. I'm on the hunt for something like a grey flannel coat but I'm such a sucker for Burberry coats that I can't find anything to compare :(

    1. The quality is definitely south of Burberry, but I am impressed. The lining is silk and the hardware is beautiful, so I'm pleased!

  5. Great deal on the Chateau parka! I love J.Crew coats and always eye them around this time of year when they're on deep sale. I already have too many though, or else I would snap this up in a heartbeat!

  6. The coat is gorgeous and definitely worth the extra monies you threw at it. And I love that you got the gingham vest! It was between that and the fair isle and I went with the fair isle since the gingham felt too spring and spring is too warm for vests here. I tried on that peplum in the store and it was short on me, so I'll have to take a look for the tall.

  7. I'm sure you won't regret that coat--it looks so cozy and warm! I love the peplum top too, I keep seeing that and I think I need to head to ON to check it out myself! Great buys this month!
